Inspired by forensic photography pioneers such as Reiss and Bertillon, I peered in closer at the surfaces of the everyday objects I encountered in and around the abandoned high desert homesteads of Wonder Valley, California. I became aware that the environmental processes which shaped the landscape around me also worked at a more intimate scale; I discovered a new realm of time, transition and transformation which form a link between the relic domestic environments of the homesteads and the landscape in which they are located.
