Magic Hour is a 60 minute, single-take, fixed vantage point work that explores the temporal dimension of our relationship with the sodium vapour street lamp by investigating how the sudden ignition of a sodium vapour lamps punctuates and transforms the gradual transition from day to night.

Magic Hour’s almost imperceptible progression from light to darkness also amplifies our sense of anticipation, refamiliarising us with small events that would usually pass by our perception. A bird flying overhead, a darting moth, the sound of a passing car, these simple occurrences are elevated in significance to occupy our attention.

As the sun slowly sets the light from the lamp appears to become ever-more intense, becoming the only visible object, the sole focus of our attention.
